Memphis Homes and Southern TraditionMemphis homes can actually mean many things to different people. The huge variety of styles of Memphis homes offers buyers many choices, from Historic homes in one of our many Historic Districts to ranch style, contemporary, and traditional Memphis homes in Eastern Memphis. The midtown bungalow style Memphis home is a favorite as well as the newer French country style that many builders are constructing today. As a native Memphian, when I think of Memphis homes…I think a bit differently though. For instance, I know that Memphis is home to the Nobel prize-winning St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I know that Memphis is home to the absolute busiest cargo airport in the world handling 2.5 million metric tons of cargo. This is mostly in part to Memphis’s home to Federal Express as the largest employer in town both at the hub and at the Federal Express World Technology Center located here. Memphis is also home to International Paper Company, who over the last 20 years built International Place in East Memphis and it is now home to their entire world headquarters. Memphis is also home to the International Bar B Q Festival held each May, where contestants from literally around the globe come to compete to win prizes in this cooking contest held at Tom Lee Park on the banks of the Mississippi River. At this same location, the Memphis in May Festival is held each year with many headliners appearing and playing at the Memphis in May Music Fest. Memphis is home to the National Civil Rights Museum and a memorial to Dr Martin Luther King. Memphis is home to the University of Memphis Tigers, who are a champion college team as well as the Memphis Grizzlies, who are an NBA team. Memphis is home to the Redbirds, a farm baseball team who competes in our Autozone Park and has quite a reputation for being a top playing team. Memphis is home of the Blues, as seem on world famous Beale Street and nearby Handy park, named after one of the founders of the blues. And then lastly, Memphis is home to Sun Records and to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock & Roll. Each year thousands of loyal fans converge on Elvis’s Memphis home Graceland to celebrate both his birthday in January and to mourn the anniversary of his death in August. As a Realtor and a native Memphian, Memphis homes has many meanings to me.
